The Canol Trail in Canada's Northwest Territories is one of the most remote roads in the world. Running almost four hundred kilometres through Sahtu Dene territory, from the community of Norman Wells, across the Mackenzie River and the Mackenzie Mountains, and to the Yukon border, there are no permanent settlements, nor does it intersect with any other roads. It was built to support a temporary oil pipeline to Alaska during the Second World War at a tremendous cost, and then abandoned.

It is one of the most beautiful areas in the world.
